Wahoo sues Zwift over Patent Infringement Claim

Wahoo Fitness has filed a law suit against Zwift and Jet Black on 3 patents associated to their indoor trainer.

Wahoo sue zwift lawsuit

Wahoo is not giving up their share of the smart trainer market without a fight because they have officially filed a case against both Zwift and Jetblack, claiming that the two brands have infringed on three of their patents. Filing details HERE

This news surfaces just days after Zwift released their popular $499 indoor trainer set out to compete with Wahoo’s $1200 model with fairly similar offerings. JetBlack is the company that produces the trainer for Zwift, which is why both companies have been brought into the law suit.

The patents Zwift claim that have been infringed on are listed at:

Patent/Trademark Number(s)

  • 10,046,222 B2
  • 10,933,290 B2
  • 11,090,542 B2

Wahoo adds in the filing “By copying the KICKR CORE, Zwift has infringed three of Wahoo’s patents. By marketing a copy of Wahoo’s patent-protected device, Zwift has taken a shortcut that allows it to reap the benefit of Wahoo’s innovations, but without investing the time and money necessary to create Wahoo’s innovations. As a result, Wahoo is forced to file this action to stop Zwift’s infringement and to ensure Wahoo’s ability to continue its strong history of innovation.”

“The selling of a copy of Wahoo’s product only direct to consumers, thereby eliminating the retail channels, hurts the overall health of the cycling industry,”

A summons has now been issued to Zwift.
