Power beat Pro cycling review
Aesthetics 10/10

How do they look?

When it comes to aesthetics, while subjective we feel that the power beats pro are the cleanest, and best looking wireless sport headphone on the market. They best part is that the power beats pro don’t just look good, they also work pretty good. Coming in at the higher end of the wireless sport headphone range between $149 and $225 usd we had high expectations when it came to the overall experience of using these headphones. As we dive into the functionality the first component we want to point out is the over ear hook works wonderfully, and for anyone that’s ever dropped an apple AirPods this design feature will be greatly appreciated. As you can see in the photo above, the over ear hook will not affect the position if your sunglasses or helmet in any way. The slick, yet sturdy design that compliments any cycling kit is why the power beats pro have earned an incredible 10/10 on our aesthetic charts.

How do they feel?

The feel of a sport headphone is incredibly important. The last thing you want to be doing is adjusting the position of your headphone in the midst of an interval, or on a technical downhill. While they aren’t a wear around the house all day comfort level headphone, they certainly do the job when it comes to serving their functionality purpose as a comfortable headphone that you don’t really think about while you ride. Sometimes you forget that you’re wearing the power beats pro, and that can be a little scary if you’ve been riding with a group of friends for a while, and haven’t been listening to your tunes. You’ll find yourself doing a quick reach up to see if you’ve still got both headphones in your ear, and they’ll be there. That’s a sign of a great sport headphone in our opinion.

Sound Quality

The beats headphone collection are known for their powerful base, and clean sound. This is why so many athletes use both the over and in ear devices to train across most sports. There’s nothing like a great song to pump up the vibe of a workout, and the power beats pro deliver what seems to be just enough sound for cycling. The key to a great cycling headphone is that they don’t completely cancel the surrounding noise, so that we can still hear cars and a random person screaming at us that we’re too awesome or something important like that, but headphones that are still loud enough amplify your workout and get you pumped up. The power beats pro definitely offer enough base at a quality sound level with no distortion to make any workout better.

Functionality

Constructed with easy to locate and press buttons, super functional sensors with charging ports that just WORK the Power Beats Pro are simple but powerful, making them your ideal training partner. To change a song, you just simply double tap the beats logo, to repeat a song or start the song you’re listening to from the beginning just tap the same button 3 times. Volume is super easily accessibly with the rectangular button located on top of the body of the headphone. Charging the beats is actually enjoyable as the magnetic sensors pull the headphone into the case as they snap into place, assuring that your headphones are charging up. If you’re on an iPhone like we tested the device with, pairing the devices are seamless. The only downside is that the charging case is a little bit bulky making it a bit unattractive to take with you on your rides, but if you’re used to filling up your pockets it probably wouldn’t bother you, although it’s not recommended to ride in the rain with the case. The sensor inside the ear is super helpful, because if you pull the headphone out of your ear the music will automatically stop, and then start when you pop it back in your ear. Scenario; You’re crushing some intervals, then your friend wants to chat, you pop the headphone half way out of your ear, but they stay on because of the hook design, you finish chatting, press the headphone back in, and the music automatically starts back up where you left off.

In Call Experience

We’ve all tried to chat with a friend while they’re riding and heard that terrible wind noise that makes it almost impossible to communicate. While the beats are almost no different at high speeds of 45km/hr+, they are really clear and effective under that range. If you’re linking up with friends you’ll be able to hear them, and they’ll be able to hear you. If you want to handle some serious business you might want to pull over to the side of the road, but you won’t have to disconnect your device and go to the iPhone directly.

Battery Life

Rated at 9 hours of playback battery life the power beats pro battery seems like a complete non issue for any cyclist. So you can get 9 hours of constant music playing, if you even ride that long, or even longer if you’re not listening to music the entire time. If you wanted to extend that battery life then you could stretch it out to 24 hours if you took the charging case with you. The case charges up in about an hour itself, and popping the headphones into the case is simple and easy. For any recreational cyclist. you just won’t find yourself heading out the door with dead headphones very often as long as you’re not leaving the headphones on your counter for days outside of the case. Charging up the case once a week would probably be enough battery life for most cyclists. Because you store the headphones in the charging case your beats will just always be charged up. Between our head units, bikes, and lights the last thing we need is something that we have to charge all the time. The power beats pro are actually really good in this regard. Little maintenance, good battery life, and a quick charge if you’re in a pinch.

Durability

Between rain, and hail in the ever changing temperatures of Antioquia Colombia where we tested the Power beats pro we simply can’t find a single durability issue with the device in the 60 days that we ran this test. For that reason, we’ve scored durability a solid 10/10/
