Nairo Quintana Contract Extension Unsigned After Tour de France Disqualification

Quintana announced on social media a contract extension with Arkea-Samsic through to 2025, but we’ve learned that the contract is unsigned.

On Aug 16, Nairo did a video interview where he announced on a Colombian cycling media channel that he had extended his contract with the French outfit, Arkea Samsic through to 2025 however we’ve learned from a credible inside source that the contract was never signed, and the tables have turned for Nairo.

Although a hand shake deal may have been made between Nairo and the Team, the official contract wasn’t signed before the announcement from the Tour de France that Nairo had been disqualified for his double positive test of Tramadol during the race. Of course this means the team now has grounds to re-negotiate, and potentially cancel any agreement that may have been on the table with Nairo.

The team has apparently set out some strict measures for Nairo going forward, including a hair sample drug test tomorrow, which will provide a full 4 month report on whether or not the Colombian GC specialist used any banned substances during that time period. The results of this test will be critical moment for the career of Nairo Quintana, and the legacy that he’s built around the world.

Many questions remain at this point surrounding the results of the test, and the standpoint of the team on officially extending a contract with Nairo Quintana. Be sure to stay tuned for more updates as they come.
